Halos and elves are upper atmospheric discharges related with thunderstorms and lightning. They are produced at about 80-100 km altitude! We have developed an original Finite-difference time-domain numerical model to simulate the temporal evolution of the lightning-emitted electromagnetic pulses that trigger the onset of halos and elves.
